This month's First Friday's feature artist will be the talented, Kent Johns! He will be showcasing his photographs from Iceland and the great American West for the month of May. Swing by and ask him about his travels Friday, May 5th from 5-9pm upstairs over a glass of wine and some sushi.
About the show:
My work is a continuous exploration of the immense beauty of our environment, both local and exotic, and the lives of the people who look to explore it. I aim to capture unique places that inspire others to get out of their house and experience something completely new. Our connection to the planet is more important than ever, and my work aims to revitalize that love for our surroundings.
I’m featuring two sets of work, one is my trip to Iceland in late October 2016. Three of us lived out of a car for almost two weeks in order to take in as much of the area as possible with the time we were given. The other is titled ‘American West Roadtrip’ and is a series of photos I shot while traveling in summer 2016, in Montana and Wyoming. It is a testament to the vast landscapes loved by so many. Both sets are an attempt to fuel the fire to explore the world around us, close and far, and not just view it through our phone screens.
About the artist:
Kent Johns is best known for his lifestyle images that capture the larger-than-life qualities of the landscapes around him. With roots in Montana, he tries to share the special gems of the state with the rest of the world. Now, he always yearns for travel, but implements the same technique of capturing the unique in an place as the medium for his photos. His goal of his work is to inspire people, especially his generational peers, to get out in the world more often and try to find more of those special moments the planet gives us.
