Osechi is Japanese traditional New Years dish. The act of sharing these celebratory dishes is also a way of ringing in the New Year by sharing intentions of health, prosperity, and happiness with family. My family wasn’t that traditional, so we just had mochi, Ozoni ( soup with mochi in it), or oshiruko( sweet bean soup with mochi in it) every year. This picture was taken in October in Japan. It’s actually all food model. At the department store, they take orders of osechi for New Year’s Day.
